Emissions Reduction Alberta receives $19.4M in federal funding to expand its Methane Reduction Deployment Program across Alberta oil and gas
18 Jun 2026

Emissions Reduction Alberta secured an additional $19.4 million in federal funding on June 10, 2026, expanding its Methane Reduction Deployment Program and doubling the per-company cap to $2 million. The money flows through Canada's Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund, in partnership with the Alberta government. Five months in, $5.2 million is already committed across eight projects.
Raising the cap from $1 million to $2 million clears a real barrier for operators trying to scale proven technologies fast. Speed matters here. Justin Riemer, CEO of Emissions Reduction Alberta, said the expanded program will help companies stay ahead of regulatory requirements while strengthening their position in global markets.
Methane is among the most potent near-term greenhouse gases, which makes targeted deployment programs especially valuable for achieving measurable cuts quickly. Beyond emissions, faster commercial adoption generates supply-chain activity and skilled-trade demand across Alberta's energy sector. International buyers increasingly reward verified low-emission performance, and broader market access may follow for producers who can prove it.
For businesses throughout the oil and gas value chain, the expanded program offers a practical tool to align operations with tightening standards now, without waiting for next-generation solutions. Combined with strong early project uptake, the higher funding ceiling suggests momentum will keep building through 2026. As methane regulations tighten across North America, Alberta operators are positioning to compete on both compliance and credibility.
