Total Sand Solution has acquired Sand Revolution as frac sand logistics providers seek greater scale to meet rising volumes and tighter completion schedules in US shale basins.

The deal, announced on November 6, brings together two Texas-based operators focused on trucking and last-mile delivery of proppant. Total Sand Solution, known as TSS, said the acquisition would expand its footprint across the Permian Basin and the Eagle Ford, which together account for a large share of US frac sand demand.

Sand Revolution, based in Midland, provides trucking, logistics and delivery services in West Texas and South Texas. TSS said the combination would add complementary last-mile capabilities to its existing platform, which includes sand procurement, logistics coordination, transloading and wellsite services.

Following the transaction, TSS said it would become the largest independent frac sand logistics provider in the US, with the capacity to deliver more than 25mn tonnes of proppant a year. The company did not disclose financial terms.

Stuart Weinman, TSS’s chief executive, said the enlarged business would offer customers greater reliability and efficiency through a larger, technology-enabled fleet. Greg Lanham, chief executive of Sand Revolution, said the deal would create a broader suite of logistics services for operators. TSS said Lanham would join the senior leadership team of the combined company.

The acquisition comes as shale completion programmes continue to use higher sand volumes per well, increasing pressure on logistics networks. Operators have pushed for tighter pumping schedules to improve capital efficiency, placing greater emphasis on reliable trucking availability, terminal access and wellsite execution.

Industry analysts say these demands are driving consolidation among logistics providers as companies seek to improve fleet utilisation, dispatch coverage and throughput during periods of high activity. Larger platforms can also spread technology and safety costs across more assets.

The TSS–Sand Revolution deal highlights how frac sand logistics has shifted from a support function to a central operational variable for shale producers, alongside drilling and pumping services. As activity levels fluctuate, the ability to move large volumes of sand consistently and at short notice has become a competitive differentiator in the US oilfield services market.
